The incident happened in the back room at The Maudslay Pub, in Allesley Old Road, Chapelfields.

A terrified witness, who did not want to be named, said: “The whole ceiling came down in the back room, where the pool table is, and four people in there got hurt. They had to be taken to hospital.

“The crack in the ceiling just opened up and all this debris fell out on top of the people.

“We were just shocked, we didn’t know what to do, it was just panic.

“People were running around screaming, it was just ridiculous.

“The management just told everyone to carry on as normal. We don’t feel safe in there.’’

The incident happened at the Mitchells & Butlers owned pub at about 6.30pm on Wednesday.

Coventry City Council sent officials to the site.

A spokesman said: “Some plaster has fallen in from the ceiling and the area has been sealed off. We understand Mitchells & Butlers surveyors are coming in this week.”

Mitchells & Butlers was unavailable for comment.
