Politically ambitious Vicky Fowler is giving up her Nuneaton council seat to concentrate on becoming the town’s next MP.

She is Labour’s hope in the 2015 General Election, aiming to overturn a 2,069 majority achieved by Marcus Jones in a Tory gain four years ago.

Ms Fowler became the youngest councillor to serve on the Nuneaton and Bedworth authority when, as a 20-year-old university student, she won a Barpool ward by-election in 2011.

“I have decided not to seek re-election next month, because there is a lot of work to be done on the Parliamentary front,” said the former Higham Lane School head girl and Kegs’ sixth former.

“My campaign is well and truly up and running and I would struggle to find the time to continue my work as a councillor.

“There is also the fact that success in the General Election would mean standing down as a councillor anyway, which would result in having to have another by-election, at the taxpayers’ expense.”
