Two hundred and forty people signed up to attend a cannabis rally in Coventry’s War Memorial Park on Sunday – but only seven turned up.

The 420 Pro Cannabis Rally was held just off Coat of Arms Bridge Road in Styvechale from 2pm.

Despite a barbecue tent selling burgers and hot dogs, the rain made the event a washout.

One 23-year-old attendee from Warwick told the Telegraph: “This is a celebration, not a protest. I'm here because I don’t agree with the UK’s drug policy.

“If you go into a town centre in the evening, you’ll always find drinkers kicking off.

“But if you put the same people in that situation with cannabis, you can guarantee that there won't be any fighting.

"There are bad stereotypes of people who smoke cannabis, but those need to be broken.

“I honestly believe that cannabis will be decriminalised within a few years.”
