A holidaymaker from Warwickshire ran up a phone bill of more than £2,600 after downloading a Neil Diamond album while abroad.

Katie Bryan was at a party with her boyfriend's family in South Africa when she decided to download the £8.99 album from iTunes on to her phone.

When she returned to the UK, Miss Bryan reportedly found Orange had billed her £2,609.31 for the download.

Miss Bryan told the Daily Mail: "I think Orange are preying on people who make a mistake while abroad. Why such a massive difference in cost? In England you would just pay the album price. There is no way this huge bill relates to the actual cost to Orange.

She added: "You hear of people doing this and you think 'stupid person - why did you do that?' I do feel foolish. But I also feel it is morally wrong to be expected to pay this sort of money for a Neil Diamond album".

Orange said Miss Bryan had received text messages warning her that she had used 250mb outside the EU.

A spokeswoman said: "We have spoken to Katie Bryan and offered a significant reduction in her bill and she is happy with this resolution."

Thing is Flappdoodle, as you point out, you know you are going to be ripped off! - Hence the stupid tag for getting caught.

Buy a local SIM, or do as I do (because I'm not important enough to need to be in touch 24/7) and leave the 'phone at home.
