"Cleaner air sweeping in off the Atlantic to clear up murk"

With a monthly rain fall total of 44.0mm during March (93 per cent of average), we have at last enjoyed some respite from the rains of last winter!

Nevertheless, we have still endured the wettest six-month period from October to March in Coventry since 1977.

Although there will be rain at times through to early next week, rainfall amounts should be modest, with a dry spell expected by the middle of next week, to further help with the drying out process, though it will be cooler than of late, with a renewed risk of frost at night.

In the meantime, we are still under the influence of this rather dirty airflow off the continent, with a murky misty start to the day in our region; skies should brighten during the morning, though it will remain rather overcast; this cloud will thicken up in the afternoon to threaten showers late afternoon into evening.

It could be quite warm if the sun comes out today, though under cloud it will be cooler, with maximum temperatures of 16C or so in a moderate east to north-easterly breeze; this is several degrees above average.

A mild cloudy night will follow, once evening showers have drifted away, with minimum temperatures around 9C; with a change in wind direction, it should be a brighter dawn on Friday as cleaner air is swept in off the Atlantic.

Friday could well be dry and bright with sunny breaks; although still mild, with maximum temperatures of 13C or so, it will be cooler and fresher than of late.

Outlook: Mild and bright, but rather cloudy, with rain at times, but certainly not a washout!

Did you know? There were 14 days with snowfall during March last year, the highest number of March snowfalls on record, but this year we managed just one day of sleet.
