Wisteria Lodge worker jailed for historic sex offences has conviction quashed

A former worker at a Coventry residential home has seen his conviction for a historic sex offence against a boy quashed by the court of appeal.

Ivan McChleery, 77, from Keresley, was convicted at Warwick Crown Court in September last year and later sentenced to four years in prison.

However the Court of Appeal, sitting in London, has now quashed that conviction clearing Mr McChleery's name.

Mr McChleery, who worked at the Earlsdon residential home in the 1990s, was released following the court's decision on October 10.

A spokesman for the Crown Prosecution service said: "We are aware that Ivan McChleery’s conviction was quashed on 10 October 2019 and that the Court of Appeal directed that there will be no re-trial.

"The complainant has been informed. We are not aware of any appeals being lodged by the other convicted defendants.”

Thread is now locked as any comment on the decision could be libelous or a contempt of court.
