Staff left terrified during raid on building society branch

Staff at a building society were left terrified as a gang of robbers struck this morning.



An eye witness has described how three men posing as street cleaners blocked the doors of Coventry Building Society, in Bulkington, before breaking into the building’s back offices where staff were working.

It is understood one robber stood guard at the door wielding a weapon - which looked like a fire extinguisher - while two other men gathered cash and a fourth man waited in a getaway car.

The passer-by said the three raiders in the building had covered their faces with balaclavas during the raid at about 9.30am.

It is not known how much the thieves escaped with, but the witness said he had seen the group carrying large amounts of cash from the building before speeding off in the waiting vehicle.
