Heavy rain caused two car engines to flood in Offchurch today (Wednesday), where Welsh Road between the village and Cubbington is currently closed due to flooding.

Officers from the area’s neighbourhood police team managed to push one of the cars to dry land but were unable to clear the second from the flooded area.

Luckily another motorist in a Land Rover Defender (with snorkel) towed the second car to the awaiting recovery van.

Police community support officer Edward King from the Warwick Rural East safer neighbourhood team said: “Please note some breakdown services are not allowed to retrieve vehicles from flooded roads and are not allowed to drive through water that is four inches or more in depth.

“You would have to pay to have your vehicle recovered if your breakdown services policies don’t permit this type of recovery.”

He added: “If flood warning signs are up and you decide to drive through anyway and you do break down, your insurance will more than likely not pay out. Think before you risk driving through flooded areas.”
