After months of consultation, plans have finally been submitted for what was once described as “the most handsome Georgian street in the Midlands.”
The contract to restore 11 houses in Northgate Street - opposite Warwick’s former Crown Courts - was won last year by London-based family firm Ash Mill Developments.
The company also bought four large properties in The Butts and three - including the town’s original police station - round the corner.
Its plans are for 18 homes, all with gardens and parking. The first of these could be on the market as early as next summer.
All 18 conversions will eventually be sold as ‘empty shells’ so that the new owners can furnish them to their own requirements.
And after positive consultations, John Brown, chairman of Ash Mill, hopes to get the go ahead from the district council by the end of next month.
He said: “We have submitted our plans later than anticipated because we have spent a lot of time honing our ideas and working up the finer detail.
“Northgate Street was described by the architectural historian A Clifton-Taylor as ‘the most handsome Georgian street in the Midlands’ but the site has many challenges.
“For that reason we have spent considerable time with our professional team assessing and understanding the buildings, the majority of which are Grade ll* listed and need of some living care.”
To avoid confusion, three properties on the corner may be renamed Northgate Place.
