A former film rental store could be transformed into office space if an application submitted by an ambitious firm, with a base in the borough, is approved.

Domestic & General is seeking permission extend its offices into the old Blockbuster Video store on Leicester Street in Bedworth.

Bosses at the business, which provides warranty services and comprehensive product protection for millions of customers, have sent an application to Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council and are hoping to be given the green light.

They wish to change the unit’s use from retail (A1) to a financial and professional services office (A2).The space would then be integrated into the company’s already used offices at Leicester House.

The firm is also seeking permission to remove the existing Blockbuster shop front and advertising in order to replace it with a brand new brickwork and aluminium powder coated windows.

Any development would also involved knocking down a wall to allow the two office spaces to merge into one.

Members of the public are now being given the opportunity to have their say on the application as a consultation period is taking place until this Thursday.

People who are keen to share their views are being asked to visit http://forms.nuneatonandbedworth.gov.uk/

Domestic & General were contacted by the News for comment but they did not wish to make comment at this stage in the application process.

Blockbuster went into administration in January after struggling to compete with online streaming and rental sites.

The Nuneaton store was also closed this year.
