More the 150 shoppers queued for hours awaiting the opening of the new Aldi store in Leamington on Thursday morning (June 13).
The store on Queensway was officially opened by town mayor, coun Judith Clarke, at 8am.
To celebrate, Aldi handed out golden envelopes- each containing a range of prizes and food samples to the first 100 people in the queue, many of who had been queueing for hours outside.
Patricia Ward walked away with the grand prize of a 22” television, with other lucky customers claiming prizes ranging from portable DVD players to MP3 players.
Store manager Marc Pitkeathly said: “There was a fantastic buzz down at the store and it was great to see so many people turn out for our opening event.”
The store, which has created up to 20 new jobs, has a 91-space car park and is opening 8am to 9m Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm Sundays.

As usual, no direct bus route for shoppers who don't have a car.
That's the trouble with these big stores, they are only geared for people with cars.
