Major road works which start in July will cause serious traffic disruption in the south of Leamington for nine months.Severn Trent’s work to improve the sewer system will move to High Street on Monday July 1, where the road will be closed between Tachbrook Road and Althorpe Street until late March 2014.
And work will also start in Spencer Street on Monday where traffic will be restricted by a three-way control system for two weeks.
Chris Keys, senior programme engineer for Severn Trent, said: Working with our partners, NMCNomenca, we’ve already replaced sewers on a number of roads in Leamington, including York Road, Grosvenor Road and Staunton Road.
In the first seven months we’ve installed more than 1 kilometre of sewer pipes, 350 metres of which were installed in a tunnel.
While we’re improving the sewer system, we’re also checking and replacing water pipes and working with National Grid, so it can upgrade pipes where needed.
Commenting on the further work, Mr Keys said: “The next stage will be on the High Street where we’ll be working between junctions so that residents can access connecting side roads.
“Starting in July, the first section will be closed between Bath Place and Tachbrook Road until late September and we’ll then be working on short segments of the street, towards Radford Road, until next summer.”
Customers will be able to access businesses in High Street at all times.
Road signs are in place and bus companies will use alternative routes which can be found on the
http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/buses web page.
Mr Keys said: “We’ll continue to keep the local community up-to-date.
“We’re holding a presentation for local businesses at the Eight Bar on the High Street on Tuesday June 18 at 6pm, to update them on our progress and future plans.
“Further community meetings will also be held in the coming months.”
