The Sun newspaper will introduce a £2-a-week paywall from August, Media Guardian is reporting.
The tabloid's shift behind a paywall means that all of News International's newspapers, including The Times and The Sunday Times, are now only available at a price for online readers.
Users who pay the £2 will have access to the website's new exclusive rights to internet and mobile highlights of Premier League football.
The new online brand will be called Sun+.
New International chief exec Mike Darcey has previously claimed that not charging for content is "untenable" in the long run and believes that the new Premier League clips deal will be enough to secure a sizeable amount of subscribers.
"This move ensures that we will be offering a compelling, paid-for package across all of our titles, delivering great value for news that is worth paying for," said Darcey in a staff email.
I expect Trinity-Mirror/Coventry Telegraph to follow suit very shortly
