Whitmore Park school plans recommended for approval

Plans for the first of six Coventry schools to be rebuilt under a government scheme have been recommended for approval.



The city council said a meeting was due to take place on Thursday to discuss proposals to demolish Whitmore Park Primary School, in Halford Lane.

Planning officers recommend the school is replaced with a two-storey building.

The contract with building firm Wates was awarded under the £2.4bn Priority School Building Programme in February.

The council said there were no plans to increase pupil numbers at Whitmore Park.

A total of four primary schools in Coventry, including Richard Lee, Wyken Croft and St Thomas More, are due to be rebuilt or renovated under the Department for Education project.

Two secondary schools - Ernesford Grange Community School and Alice Stevens Special School - would also benefit from the scheme, it said.

A seventh school, President Kennedy School, is to undergo privately-funded renovations after plans for the six are finalised, a spokesman said.
