The new Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby, has been welcomed to Coventry this morning (Friday).
Hundreds of well-wishers greeted Archbishop Justin, who was ordained in Coventry Cathedral in 1992 and spent the next 15 years in Coventry and Warwickshire as a Church of England minister, when he arrived in Broadgate in the city centre.
The former Coventry Cathedral canon said: “It feels wonderful to be back here. It feels like coming home.”
Archbishop Justin was met by the Bishop of Coventry The Rt Rev Dr Christopher Cocksworth and Coventry’s Lord Mayor Coun Tim Sawdon before a procession to the Cathedral Ruins for prayers.
The visit forms part of a “journey of prayer” of five cities in the days leading up to his enthronement at Canterbury Cathedral on March 21.
