Some Halfords workers who end up moving from a site in Redditch, Worcestershire to a new centre in Coventry will be paid less, the firm has said.

The car parts and bicycle retailer said it was planning to open a distribution centre in Coventry in the summer.

It added it hoped about 270 new jobs would be created in the city.

The company said it was hopeful that as many of the 100-plus people as possible based in Redditch would move to Coventry.

'Different terms'

It said those workers who move will get "up to half a potential redundancy payment".

But confirming some staff who make the move will be earning less, David Sawday, from the company, said: "There are different terms and conditions at Coventry."

He added: "We haven't undertaken this lightly. We've undertaken it with a lot of consideration.

"Coventry is really at the epicentre of our distribution network, the way we move all our products to our stores."

He said the company was still talking to everyone involved in the process.

Uh? If I was forced to move from Redditch to Coventry I'd expect to be paid more not less?

Hardly seems fair does it - but some people may be forced to take the cut depending on their circumstances.
