Flooded Coventry pub forced to close

Postby dutchman » Tue Nov 13, 2012 2:09 pm

A flooded city centre pub has been forced to close after water started pouring through a hole in the ceiling.

The Jaguar in Corporation Street closed last week after water first started running down the walls from the roof.

Landlady Charley Wing plans to reopen the pub, popular with Coventry’s Irish community, once repair work has been carried out in a few weeks.

“I’m just worried with pubs being the way they are, people will think we’ve shut down,” Charley said.

“The way gossip gets around everyone could just assume we’ve lost another Coventry pub. But the pub company should be sorting it all out.”

The Jaguar reopened two years ago after a £40,000 refurbishment.

Charley added: “It had been leaking a bit for a week and had been just dripping. We were waiting to get it repaired before the ceiling went.

“I had to close because the damp’s not good for our older customers’ chests.”

Jaguar pub reopens after flooding

A COVENTRY city centre pub flooded during last year’s wet weather has finally reopened.

The Jaguar in Corporation Street was forced to close in November when water started pouring through a hole in the ceiling and running down walls from the roof.

It had only reopened two years earlier after a £40,000 refurbishment by owners Enterprise Inns. The recent refit included new wallpaper, carpets and furniture.

Landlady Charley Wing said: “We just want to let everyone know we’re back open. I’m worried the whole city is thinking I’ve gone bankrupt or something.

“Enterprise have kept to their deal and we have a full refurb with all new stuff.

“It’s been an absolute nightmare because of the weather. It was raining so much they couldn’t get up on to the roof to fix the problem.

“But it’s all finally done now and the place is looking really nice.”

The pub will hold its official reopening party with live music on Sunday from 4pm.
