Five-year-old girl dies in Coventry car crash

A five year old girl has died after the car she was in hit a building in Coventry this morning.

She was one of four family members in the Honda Civic which hit a building at the junction of King William Street and Canterbury Street, Hillfields, at 2.30am.

She was taken to hospital with internal injuries but was pronounced dead at 5am.

Her mother suffered a broken arm while a teenager and a man in the car - believed to be the girl’s mother and brother - were treated for minor damage.

Police cordoned off the road for crash investigators to examine the scene.

It’s now been re-opened but the damaged building has been sealed off for a structural assessment. Police are appealing for witnesses.

Police name five-year-old who died in Coventry car crash

POLICE have named the five-year-old girl who died in a car crash in Coventry on Monday.

Maryam Mangera was killed after the car she was travelling in veered off a street in Hillfields and hit the side of a building.

She and her family had been returning from holiday.

The little girl, who lived in Foleshill, was one of four family members in a Honda Civic which hit a building at the junction of King William Street and Canterbury Street, Hillfields, just before 2.30am on Monday.

Maryam was taken to hospital with internal injuries but pronounced dead at around 5am.

West Midlands Police's Collision Investigation Team is asking for any witnesses, or anyone who saw the red Honda Civic travelling in King William Street before the impact, to contact them by calling 101.
