Santander to close one of its Leamington branches

Postby dutchman » Sat Nov 10, 2012 10:55 pm

Santander is to close one of its two branches on the Parade in Leamington.

Since the Spanish banking giant took over Alliance & Leicester, Abbey and Bradford and Bingley, there have been a number of closures of near-neighbour branches across the country.

The former Bradford and Bingley branch will close on November 22 and staff will move a few yards down the Parade to the Santander branch in the former Abbey office.

A spokesman for Santander stressed that there would be no job losses and if staff were not keen on the move positions will be offered at other branches or other roles within the bank.

He said: “The primary objective is to ensure there are no job losses.

“We are confident we can continue to provide an appropriate level of service to our customers in Leamington.

“These changes will allow Santander to reinvest in opening branches in new locations.”

Santander bank branch in Coventry set to close

THE COVENTRY branch of Santander bank is one of 140 set to close across the UK with thousands of jobs affected.

The branch on Coventry High Street is scheduled for closure on November 7 and it is unclear how many employees could be cut in the city.

Santander chiefs say they have consulted trade unions on the proposed changes and will seek to find alternative roles for the 1,270 UK workers affected wherever possible.

Santander expects to be able to redeploy around a third of those affected, chiefs say.

The branch closures are in response to changes in how customers are choosing to carry out their banking, chiefs say.

The number of transactions carried out via Santander branches has fallen by 23 per cent over the past three years, it says.

But transactions via digital channels have nearly doubled over the same period.

The Spanish bank will retain a nationwide network of 614 branches following the proposed changes.

All current and business account holders can also bank using one of over 11,000 Post Office branches across the UK, the bank says.

That's little consolation to their customers when Post Office branches are also closing!

These institutions don't give a fig for their customers. The first institution that puts the customer first is on to a real winner.

PS, anyone else think the Santander logo looks like a dog turd? :rolling:
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
