A teenager has been arrested and another hospitalised following an altercation in the early hours of this morning (Saturday 20 October).

Police were alerted shortly before 4.30am by the ambulance service to reports of a stabbing on Binley Road (A428), in the Stoke area of Coventry.

Emergency services raced to the scene and found a 17-year-old local man with a chest injury.

Once stabilised, the injured lad was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

An 18-year-old was arrested a short distance away on Biggin Hill Crescent.

Gosford Park remains cordoned-off while finger-tip searches of parkland continue.

House to house enquiries have been conducted and officers are identifying CCTV which may have captured the incident on camera.

Detective Sergeant David Bailey, from the force’s Criminal Investigation Department, said: “Initial indications are that there has been some sort of altercation at a nearby address which has spilled out onto the street.

“Officers were immediately dispatched and while searching the area for a possible offender, spotted a teenager acting suspiciously. The lad was then arrested on suspicion of assault.”

The arrested teen remains in police custody while enquiries continue.

Anyone with information which may aid DS Bailey’s investigation should call him on 101. Alternatively, people who do not wish to speak with police officers can call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

A TEENAGER is critically ill in hospital after he was stabbed in a city park.

The 17-year-old suffered serious chest injuries after he was stabbed in Gosford Park, off Binley Road, in the early hours of Saturday morning.

He was taken to University Hospital, Walsgrave for treatment where police say he remains in a critical condition.

The incident happened at around 4.30am. It is thought an argument had started at a nearby house on Binley Road before spilling on to the street.

An 18-year-old man was arrested by police a short distance away on Biggin Hall Crescent on suspicion of assault. He was taken into police custody for questioning.

On Saturday morning, police closed off the entire park and a part of Biggin Hall Crescent while forensic examinations and a search for a possible weapon were carried out.

House to house enquiries were also being conducted and officers are now looking at CCTV in the area which may have captured the incident on camera.

DS David Bailey, from the Coventry Police’s criminal investigation department, said: "Initial indications are that there has been some sort of altercation at a nearby address which has spilled out onto the street.

"Officers were immediately dispatched and while searching the area for a possible offender, spotted a teenager acting suspiciously. The lad was then arrested on suspicion of assault."

Mitch Price, 21, who lives near the park was woken by emergency services attending the scene early in the morning.

He said: "There was a lot of people in the park from around 8pm. There’s always a lot of people hanging around in there, I wouldn’t walk through there at night.

"I came home around 4am and didn’t notice anything in the park but I was woken up about an hour later with all the flashing lights."

Anyone with information that could help the police’s investigation is asked to call DS Bailey on 101.
