Freddie Starr loses court gag bid over ‘under-age girl grope

Comic Freddie Starr yesterday lost a court gag bid over claims he groped a girl of 14 in Jimmy Savile’s dressing room.



The bombshell claim — described in court papers as a “false allegation” — was made by a woman who said she was attacked by Starr at a party in the 70s.

She also alleged another under-age girl later had sex with paedo pop star Gary Glitter at the same bash.

Starr, 69 — who vehemently denies the claim — won a temporary gagging order at the High Court on Tuesday. But yesterday a judge refused to continue the injunction.

Court papers revealed the woman’s claim — described in the order as “false” — was that: “Freddie Starr groped and propositioned a girl who was then aged 14 at a party in Jimmy Savile’s dressing room in the early 1970s. When she rebuffed his advances he then is alleged to have publicly humiliated her.

“At the same party Paul Gadd (Gary Glitter) was alleged to be present and having sex with another under-age girl.”

During yesterday’s High Court hearing, Mr Justice Tugendhat was told Starr categorically denied the “unfounded allegations”.

His counsel Dean Dunham said: “We were not trying to restrain private information. We were trying to restrain a libel.”

But the judge said: “It is one person’s word against another where the court is unable to form a view as to who is to be believed.

“So how can I grant an injunction?”

Last night Starr denied the claims and said he had “never heard of the girl in his life.”

Comedian Freddie Starr last night denied claims that he groped a girl of 14 in Jimmy Savile’s dressing room.

Freddie, 69, said the allegation that he joined Savile and Gary Glitter at the gathering was an “utter lie”.

He learnt of the accusations on Wednesday when ITV asked for his views on claims he “groped and propositioned” the girl in the 70s.

Freddie said: “I was sick to the stomach when I heard that. It is disgusting and it never happened.”

A High Court injunction he obtained over allegations was overturned yesterday.

Freddie insisted at his luxury home near Studley, Warks: “If what is being said about Jimmy is true he’s a scumbag. I hate paedophiles. I’d kill them.

“I didn’t know Savile but I couldn’t stand his face. I wanted to punch it.”

It is claimed Glitter, 68, had sex with a girl in the BBC room when Freddie allegedly groped a teenager. Savile is said to have been fondling a girl.

Freddie says he will take legal action against his accuser.
