A council meeting to discuss the future of a Warwickshire borough was abandoned when a campaigner staged a sit-in.

Officials said an "intruder" walked into the meeting about how Nuneaton and Bedworth could develop over the next 17 years and refused to leave.

Council leaders said the meeting, in the chamber of Nuneaton's Town Hall, was being held in private because of the "sensitive nature" of discussions.

It is not known what the campaigner was protesting about.

The meeting on Thursday included councillors from different political groups on the authority.

Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council said other councillors and members of the public would get the opportunity to comment once the plans reached the consultation stage.

Danny Aldington, chairman of the working party, said it was an "unfortunate incident" which would "only cause further delays" to publishing the borough plan.
