Father launches petition over state of Lillington flats

Concerns over the health of his baby daughters have lead a Lillington man to start a petition for the block of flats where he lives to be tidied up.

Martin Ward, 30, of Burbury Close, has asked neighbours to sign the petition to ask Warwick District Council to do a better job of maintaining the laundry area at the back of the building.

He is also worried about the state of the hallways and the size of the gap between the railings outside his second-floor flat, which he fears could be a hazard for his five-month-old girls Alexandra and Samantha when they start to crawl.

Mr Ward said: “My partner and I have been trying to move to a different place for a while because of a lack of space.

“But if anybody comes to view the place for a swap they’ll see it is a mess. It’s not good for the girls’ health.”

Ward councillor Dave Wreford-Bush (Lib Dem, Leamington Crown) said that although repairs and cleaning had been done throughout the building it could still benefit from more cleaning and decorating. He added that the family’s flat was not suitable for them and he hopes “common sense will prevail” and they will be moved as soon as possible.
