Sir Cliff Richard has reportedly been ordered to demolish a £30,000 conservatory at his Surrey home.

The singer built the 17ft-long extension in 2006 but omitted to apply for planning permission. A retrospective application lodged with Runnymede Council was refused after it was discovered that the structure breached planning laws.

The Mail On Sunday reports that a subsequent appeal has now been rejected.

Sir Cliff knocked down a bungalow to build a large mansion at Wentworth estate in Virginia Water. Legislation allowed the new home to be 30 per cent larger than the original structure, however, the later addition of the conservatory meant that the limit was breached.

The 69-year-old, who put the property up for sale for £1.35 million last year, has until March 9 to remove the extension. Dave Farrell, Sir Cliff’s planning consultant, called the demolition order 'a bit silly'. "We’re disappointed but it's just one of those things," he said.

No one at Sir Cliff’s office was available for comment.
