The Jordan Well venue will open after hours for an evening of free entertainment on Saturday.

Films, live music, family activities and living history will all be showcased during the Museums at Night event which runs between 6-10pm when visitors will explore the collections and exhibition during the twilight hours.

Local filmmakers Roots to Shoots will screen a selection of films from their back catalogue and premiere their film A Swift Change which was shot at the Herbert for the Sci-fi 48 Hour Film Challenge.

Also showing will be Lunt by Karl Dixon, a short film about a Roman solider lost in present day Coventry.

Events officer Jessica Pinson said: “Museums at Night is a great way to experience the Herbert.

“This year we will be bringing the galleries to life with all the events and activities happening throughout the evening.

“There’s something programmed for everyone and we would encourage adults and children who do not have the opportunity to attend during the day to take the chance to explore something different on what is always a very special evening.”

Live poetry readings and music will be staged in the cafe while local musicians Verity Pabla and Si Hayden will perform alongside spoken word performances led by Birmingham Poet Laureate Roz Goddard.

The Soulful choir of young people will entertain with gospel songs with an RnB flavour in the studio space and storyteller Anne-Marie Sandos will tell dramatic tales for adults and children.

The Peace and Reconciliation gallery will explore A Tale of Two Cities, featuring the twinning of Coventry and Stalingrad.

A Red Army Frontovic, or soldier, will explain the friendship that was built between the two cities, which were twinned during the Second World War.

Museums at Night is an annual event involving hundreds of museums, galleries, libraries and heritage sites.
