A Coventry street has been cordoned off while police negotiators talk to a man.

West Midlands Police said they went to Grafton Street in the Stoke area at 15:00 BST after a call from a member of the public.

Police said a man thought to be in his 30s had threatened to harm himself should officers approach.

Chief Superintendent Clive Burgess said: "We would ask for the public's continued support in our efforts to safely resolve the matter."

The road has been cordoned off at the junctions of Bramble Street and Binley Road, and residents have been advised to stay inside their homes, a spokesman said.

Coventry man arrested after police negotiations

A 38-year-old man from Coventry has been arrested after police sealed off a street while negotiators spoke to him.

West Midlands Police said they went to Grafton Street in the Stoke area at 15:00 BST on Monday after a call from a member of the public.

The arrested man had threatened to harm himself. Police said negotiations ended at 04:12 BST and no-one was injured.

Police said the man has been arrested in connection with a wounding earlier this month.

The junctions of Bramble Street and Binley Road have now fully reopened.

Ah yes, I can see how you would make that mistake. Story is now restricted to the "news" section.
