McDonald's Pounded Over 'Bob' Menu Advert

A new advert for McDonald's has come under fire over its inaccurate use of the English language.

Mcdonalds Saver Menu Causes Stir With Use of 'Bob' in recent TV advert

The Pound Saver menu aims to feed customers for about £1

The advert, which promotes the Pound Saver Menu, begins "the pound, also known as a bob", a statement which, strictly speaking, is not true.

Technically, a bob is a term for a shilling, or five pence, and of far less value than a pound.

In fairness to McDonald's, a pound coin today only buys about as much as a shilling coin did when it was known as a "bob".

Would anybody who remembers shillings ever set foot in a McDonald's? :stir:
