This is the moment a smirking thief was caught on camera stealing hundreds of pounds from a pensioner’s bank account – minutes after snatching her card.

The woman is seen laughing to herself at a cashpoint in Binley Road, Stoke, Coventry, using a card she stole minutes earlier at another machine.

Police believe that she and a male accomplice intercepted the 66-year-old’s transaction by butting in and claiming the machine was faulty.

The pair convinced her to re-enter her pin before distracting her and swiping her card. It was the second time the pair had struck in two hours, earlier stealing a card from a 40-year-old woman at the Coventry Building Society cashpoint in Walsgrave Road.

They withdrew £1,100 during thefts.

Investigating officer, Pc Chris Milburn from Coventry Police said: “The offenders approached both victims claiming they’d experienced a problem with the cash machine.

“The female waves a bank card in front of them and strikes up a conversation - but it is all part of their plan to distract the victim whilst her male accomplice removes the bank card.

“It’s particularly galling to see the female suspect laughing to herself as she withdraws £500 from a pensioner’s account.

“If anyone recognises either of the suspects I’d ask them to contact me as soon as possible.”

The woman is described as black, in her early 20s, 5ft 3ins to 5ft 5ins, slim with dark afro hair with ginger tips. She was wearing a tiger style three-quarter length jacket.

She was with a black man in his late 20s or early 30s, just under 6ft with dark, tightly curled hair. He was wearing a baseball cap and dark-sleeved top.

The pair struck on February 14.

The pair made two more attempts to withdraw cash from machines in Buckminster Road, just outside Leicester city centre. Both were unsuccessful.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Pc Milburn on 0345 113 5000 extension 7934 6101.
