Proof that romance is alive and well in England...

Supermarket chain Asda is helping Brits be romantic on the cheap this year – with a 7p Valentine's Day card.

The cut-price gesture comes with the retailer's trademark green stripe across the front, as well as the Smart Price logo inside a heart.

And to add insult to injury, the message inside the dull brown card even reads: "My love for you is priceless!"

For an extra 7p the supermarket will throw in a red envelope with the bargain buy.

Seasonal Card Buyer at Asda Laura Ryall said: "We noticed there was a gap in the market for people who don't take Valentine's Day too seriously, but still want to make a gesture.

"So if your romantic advances leave you heartbroken you can be rest-assured that your bank balance will remain fully intact."

The cards have become an instant web hit, with Brits heading to money-saving forums to tell how tickled they were.

One user wrote: "Looking to break up with your partner but not sure how? Give them a 7p card from Asda!"

And another said: "Thanks for making me laugh so much. Think it should come with a warning on the packet – Guaranteed to get you a quickie divorce!

"Would definitely send one of these to someone I didn't like!"
