Council reviews residents parking scheme in Starley Road

Coventry City Council is to review a parking scheme after complaints from residents.



The five-year-old parking scheme at Starley Road, Coventry city centre, has attracted complaints at a time when businesses including IKEA have become established nearby.

Residents complained after the council doubled visitor parking charges in August last year to £20 per book, prompting a petition handed to the council by councillor Dave Nellist (Socialist, St Michael’s).

Labour councillor Lindsley Harvard, city services cabinet member, has now agreed to revert the visitor charge to £10 for six months, refund the additional £10 to some, and review the scheme’s operation.

Councillor Nellist said: “I’m grateful the council has changed the decision, which had been brought in without proper consultation. People who live in Starley Road are entitled to be protected from being used as a free car park for customers of businesses across the road. They shouldn’t have to pay anything for that protection.”
