A refuse lorry was blown over and litter strewn all over the M6 as strong winds caused havoc across the region.
Large quantities of rubbish were blown across roads and onto the motorway below, causing havoc for motorists at junction 2 of the M6 near Walsgrave on Thursday.
It led to the roundabout at the busy junction connecting the A4600 Hinckley Road, the A46, M6 and M69 being closed from around midday.
Meanwhile the refuse lorry stranded on the bridge over the M6, opposite the Showcase Cinema, began spilling diesel.
The southbound carriageway of the M6 was closed off while the Highways Agency cleared debris.
Three fire crews attended to ensure the scene was safe before Highways Agency officers could begin cleaning up.
The driver escaped unhurt.
A spokeswoman for Warwickshire Police, said: “Officers are investigating how the vehicle ended up on its side.”
Two lanes were closed on the southbound M6 carriageway and speed limits reduced.
The M6 exit slip road was closed until 7pm causing delays on surrounding roads, the M6 and M69.
