Amelia Mansell, from Stratford, was given the news she had won prizes when she visited the gallery last week to enjoy the Tiny Tot Explorers: Sensory Play session with her daughter Sophie.

Mrs Mansell’s prizes included a £50 voucher for the gallery’s shop, a friends and family membership worth £35 and a family ticket to next year’s Dinosaur exhibition.

She said: “I can’t believe we’re the millionth visitor.

“I booked to come here ages ago so for this to happen is crazy.

“I was shocked when they said that I’d won.

“We love the Herbert.”

In celebration of the Herbert’s millionth visitor since its transformation and relaunch back in October 2008, Coventry Heritage and Arts Trust has commissioned a new piece of artwork in which visitors to the gallery may be included.

The gallery has compiled images from the last three years from every event, exhibition, workshop and performance it has held, as well as photos representing its collections and work with communities, schools and partner organisations.

These photos have been digitally composited to create an image of the gallery and museum’s founder and great philanthropist Sir Alfred Herbert. Anyone who has visited the Herbert since 2008 could find their face within the work.

The mosaic will be displayed in the covered court area of the gallery over the next few months and can be seen online* at http://www.theherbert.org/index.php/hom ... tor-mosaic
