Cineworld future in doubt after 007 delay
Britain's largest cinema chain could reportedly close this week with Cineworld said to be considering shutting all 128 theatres nationally.
The move could affect theatres in Rugby and Solihull and put 5,500 jobs at risk across the UK and Ireland.
Bosses at the chain are reportedly considering writing a letter to the Prime Minister and Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden, saying the industry has become “unviable” after film studios postponed major releases.
The chain has a theatre at Junction One Retail Park in Rugby and in Solihull at the Touchwood.
The new James Bond movie has been delayed until spring, removing a lifeline that it was hoped would have attracted audiences back after cinemas reopened with enhanced hygiene measures following the Covid-19 shutdown.
Plans to close all UK sites as soon as this week are also being drawn up, according to sources who spoke to The Sunday Times.
