Lloyds to shut 29 branches - but fate of Coventry banks unknownLloyds Banking Group has announced plans to axe THOUSANDS of jobs under new proposals to cut costs.
The biggest retail banking group in the UK, Lloyds boasts numerous branches in Coventry and Warwickshire, though it remains to be seen whether these will be affected by the decision.
Lloyds will close 29 branches in total - featuring 19 of its own banks, as well as seven Bank of Scotland and three Halifax branches.
It is understood that all the affected branches will shut for good in June.
The bank employs about 77,000 people and has more than 2,000 branches, but has announced to workers it will be cutting 1,755 jobs.
They said they would add 170 new jobs in retail and commercial banking, as well as their legal team, in a bid to take the net figure for job losses down to about 1,585.
Lloyds have confirmed they hope the job losses can be achieved through voluntary means.

It always is. Yet the Hertford St Branch was almost always empty.

I can't say I'm surprised at this.
I was in at TP a few years back, they were screaming out for improvement, but they wouldn't listen. Oddly enough, it was the shop-floor that were most resistant, rather than the usual middle management.
