Warwick residents will pay tribute to their loved ones today (Saturday) when a Tree of Remembrance will be lit up.
The tree in the market square has been decorated with cards carrying testimonials to loved ones from people donating to charitable causes.
It is set up each year by Warwick Rotary Club and Warwick Town Council.
Moira Bailey-Webb, the rotary club’s chairman of community charities, said: “It’s all about celebrating people we love and remembering them at Christmas. It’s a time to remember that everyone matters.”
Warwick mayor Cllr Trudy Offer’s charities this year are the Graham Fulford Trust, which raises awareness of prostate cancer, and Safeline, which supports victims of sexual abuse. The Rotary Club is supporting Warwick Juniors FC, and the Stroke Unit at Warwick Hospital’s Victoria Ward.
So far 350 testimonials have been made, each raising a minimum £5 donation. Further donations can be made at either the post office, Claridges, Torrys or the tourist information centre.
The illumination ceremony will be accompanied by a reading and music from a local choir and girls’ marching band.
After a successful event last year, up to 200 people are expected to attend.
