Work has started to remove a glass-covered canopy in Coventry city centre amid fears over safety.Workmen are taking down the structure in Smithford Way after panes of glass fell out in July and November.
No-one was injured but bosses at West Orchards Shopping Centre said it was better to replace then repair.
All the panes will be gone by the end of next week, and the 20-year-old structure itself will be gone in the New Year.
Shopping centre manager Andy Talbot said: “We could have repaired it or taken the opportunity to remove it.
“We’ve seen how great Broadgate looks without its canopy and thought that’s the right way to go.
“It will let in a lot more light.”
