Warwickshire Police urged people to only call 999 in an emergency and to use the new non-emergency number 101 for all other calls.
It is among forces cancelling police officers’ days off to cover striking civilian staff, including police community support officers.
Many non-urgent NHS services and appointments have also been postponed today across hospitals in Coventry and Warwickshire, although minimal disruption is expected at GPs and dentists.
Bosses at University Hospital in Coventry and Rugby St Cross are urging the public to consider if attendance at either site is necessary tomorrow, to ease any backlog.
As we have already reported, 33 unions are striking over proposed pension changes, which would see many public servants paying more into pensions to get less after working longer.
The government says the changes are needed to make pension schemes sustainable with us all living longer.
Andy Summers, Warwickshire National Union of Teachers president, said the coalition government was embarking on a “shameful attack on vital services harming children”.
