Public worker's strike, no bin collections today

Postby dutchman » Wed Nov 30, 2011 2:53 pm

The council have told us the following:

Bin collections will go ahead as usual if your collection day is Tuesday, Thursday or Friday. There will be no collection for people who normally have one on Wednesday.

Recycling bins missed on Wednesday will be collected on Thursday and Friday so please put your blue-lidded bin out at the normal time on Thursday morning and leave them out until they have been emptied.

We will attempt to collect green-lidded waste bins missed on Wednesday on the following Saturday – resource permitting. If your bin is not collected on Saturday please take it back in and put it out for the next scheduled collection day, the following Wednesday.

All 17 city libraries are closed but 12 of those would normally be closed on Wednesdays anyway because of opening on Saturdays. The five that would normally open on Wednesday are Central, Arena Park, Caludon Castle, Earlsdon and Foleshill.

The Council has been working with the trade unions to agree staff exemptions where emergency cover can be provided during the strike.

In many areas the affect of the strike on services will not be known until Wednesday morning and we would advise anyone planning to use a council service to check it is still available before they travel. We will be aiming to let residents know about the affects of the strike on services as soon as we can.
