Leamington's Christmas lights are all set to be switched on at 5pm this Sunday but the town will offer hours of free entertainment before that.

The family-friendly event always draws a huge crowd with children’s funfair rides and the popular Yuletide Fayre which offers a range of craft and gift ideas.

Leamington town centre manager Pam Dunsdon said: “It’s a joy to be involved with this event as it has so much support from local groups and businesses, with volunteers doing everything from performing to actually switching on the lights.

“Once again we’ve got a fantastic line-up of exciting performers and this year promises to deliver an extra special finale which will be a truly memorable experience for all.”

The action starts from 12.45pm when the radio station’s house band, Bass, Birds and Beats, will warm up the crowds with some hilarious help from stars of this year’s Spa Centre panto Sleeping Beauty.

Watch out for Josh the Jester, played by Kevin McGreevy, the beautiful Belle, played by Carol Elizabeth Dobson and the evil Carabosse, in the form of Genna Galloway.

The Rotary Club Tree of Lights dedication service is due to take place outside the town hall between 3.30pm and 4.30pm with the Royal Spa Brass Band performing a traditional programme of music with carol singing to accompany the switching on of the tree lights.

There will also be prizes and lots of festive competitions before Last Chance takes to the stage at 4.45pm.

In the weeks following the switch-on the Yuletide Fayre will return to the Parade each Sunday and includes the Farmers’ Market on December 18 from 10am until 5pm. The whole afternoon is sponsored by a variety of local businesses and organisations including Mercia, Tandy UK, the Royal Spa Centre, Churches Together in Leamington, The Royal Leamington Spa Rotary Club, the town council and Warwick District Council.
