Police have issued CCTV footage of a man they want to speak to in connection with a "scooter rage" attack on an 83-year-old disabled man in Coventry.

West Midlands Police said the image showed the male leaving a supermarket moments before the victim was pulled from his mobility scooter in the Holbrooks area on September 9.

The victim, who has not been named, was not seriously hurt when he was "unseated" from the vehicle before his crutches were hurled into the road.

The CCTV image shows a man officers want to speak to in connection with the assault walking out of a nearby Morrisons store shortly after the victim departed from the shop on his scooter.

Investigating officer PC Steve Haynes said: "It's not clear what led to the assault - whether something was said in the supermarket or if the offender took exception to the scooter being ridden in the road - or whether it was totally unprovoked.

"Either way, there can be no justification for dragging a man from a disability scooter.

"It's a particularly unsavoury incident and I'd ask for any witnesses, or anyone who thinks they recognise the man in the CCTV footage, to contact me."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Pc Steve Haynes at Coventry's Central Police Station on 0345 113 5000 or the Crimestoppers service on 0800 555 111.
