A Coventry hotel has submitted plans to build an access road off a busy dual carriageway.

The Allesley Hotel, in Birmingham Road, wants the new road to run off the A4114, Pickford Way.

It would replace the current access, which is a narrow restricted entrance driveway off Birmingham Road.

The proposed access would be to the north of the eastbound lane of Pickford Way and have a 100-metre deceleration lane to the entrance, feeding into a 140-space car park.

The city council’s planning committee is due to discuss the plan on Thursday.

Six letters of objection have been submitted by neighbours highlighting concerns including road safety, making the hotel less accessible for local residents and adding to parking problems in the area.

One letter of support has been sent to the council stating the scheme would have a positive impact on reducing traffic through Allesley Village.

Planning officers have recommended councillors grant planning permission.
