Coventry Blaze's new defenceman Dustin Wood says he decided to join the club after talking to other Canadians playing in the Elite League.

Wood has joined Blaze after a move to the Czech Republic fell through.

"I was sitting at home and deciding on what I was going to do for the upcoming season," revealed Wood.

"I contacted a few players in the league and got some insight. Everything I received back was positive so I decided to make the move to the UK."

Blaze fans will have to wait for a couple of weeks before seeing the new recruit in action. But once the paperwork is completed Wood says he is fit to play.

"I'm ready to go and have been for a while. I have had nothing but good feedback from people and I am sure it is a great atmosphere and I am excited to be a part of it."

The 30-year-old Ontarian appeared in 320 regular-season and play-off games in the American Hockey League and has spent the past two seasons in the Asia League, a championship he won twice.

"I am excited to join the winning tradition at Coventry. Hopefully we can maintain that and continue to make it exciting for the fans.

"I am here to win just like the rest of the boys, I'm sure. I am excited and can't wait to get there and get started."
