The police helicopter and armed officers were called to The Black Horse at around 11am on Monday 5th September to reports of an armed robbery in progress.

Fire arms teams and the police helicopter were also involved.

Officers had to chase some of the suspects from the scene after one threatened them with what was believed to be a gun.

Three people were then arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary a short while later; a 25-year-old man near to the Black Horse Public House, a 20-year-old man on the Arches Industrial Estate and a 22-year-old man next to Morrisons on the Alvis Retail Park.

A 22-year-old man was arrested by officers at the pub on suspicion of aggravated burglary at the pub.

A 46-year-old man was also arrested at the pub on suspicion of cultivation of cannabis, after around 40 plants were discovered inside. He has since been bailed.

A wide area search was undertaken following the incident which has resulted in the recovery of a quantity of property as well as an imitation firearm.

Detective Chief Inspector Matt Markham, from Force CID in Coventry, said: “There would have been a lot of people around at the time who would have seen this incident unfolding.

“I would ask anyone who did see anything to get in touch with us as they may have information that could help this enquiry.”

Anyone with any information is asked to call detectives in Coventry on 0345 113 5000 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
