Hundreds of Lillington residents have played their part in having planning permission granted for a new fish and chip shop in the area. The takeaway will be built as an extension to the Londis supermarket in Newland Road, near the Eden and Southorn Court flats.
A petition with 661 signatures in support of the application was submitted to Warwick District Council before the authority’s planning committee voted unanimously to grant the proposal during a meeting at Leamington town hall last Wednesday.
Speaking in support of the plan, ward councillor Dave Wreford-Bush (Lib Dem, Leamington Crown) said the chip shop would be built in an area populated by many people with transport problems who could not get back from the nearest takeaways at Crown Way with their food still warm.
Cllr Bob Dhillon (Con, Warwick West) said: “Who are we to say where people should eat if the community support this application?
“Surely we can grant it in circumstances where the local need will be met.”
