A Nuneaton man who went on the run before he was convicted of four rapes has been found by police in Scotland.

25-year old Nathan Lucas from Vernons Lane skipped court during his trial at Warwick Crown Court in Leamington back in June.

He was convicted in his absence of four counts of rape, one of attempted rape and a charge of false imprisonment.

Police now need to find him so he can be sentenced. When he is released from prison he will become a registered sex offender.

His face was shown on TV on Crimewatch last week to try to track him down.

Last night Lothian and Borders police acting on behalf of the Warwickshire force arrested Lucas and a date will now be set for his sentencing.

DI Gill Young of Warwickshire Police’s dedicated rape investigation team said “Lothian and Borders Police acted on our behalf to effect the arrest. We are delighted that Nathan Lucas is in custody and he can now be sentenced.

“We hope the fact that he is back in custody brings some comfort to the three woman who bravely came forward to give evidence at his recent trial.”
