The club said the decision had been taken after discussions with various authorities including police and the Football Association.

A statement on the club's website said it was due to circumstances beyond the control of both clubs.

Club chairman Ian Neale apologised to fans for the inconvenience.

'Lost opportunity'

It is the first time Nuneaton, who play at Liberty Way, have met League One Walsall, a Nuneaton Town spokesman said.

A statement on the club's website said: "Due to circumstances beyond the control of both clubs, Saturday's home tie against Walsall FC will be played behind closed doors.

"Nuneaton Town Football Club apologies for any inconvenience and looks forward to its next home game against Leamington FC on Tuesday 2 August, kick off 7.45."

Mr Neale said it was "disappointing the club has lost the opportunity of a good income stream".

Walsall Football Club has not made any comment.
