A baby-faced teenager has been locked up for a minimum of four and a half years after attacking a vulnerable woman as she lay bed bound in her Coventry home.

Baillee Fairley, 17, of Humber Road, Stoke, Coventry, beat the accident victim with her own crutches as he demanded cash.

A judge at Coventry Crown Court locked him up for public protection for at least four and a half years – saying if he was an adult he would have been facing a 15-year stretch.

Judge Richard Griffith-Jones said the young defendant “didn’t show an ounce of regret” after violently assaulting his female victim, who was bed bound with a broken leg.

Armed with a large knife, Fairley climbed through a window into his 45-year-old victim’s home at 1am on January 14 this year.

He demanded money and went on to stab her in the head before beating her severely with her own crutches.

Believing he was about to kill her, she handed over her handbag, which contained credit cards, £400 cash, a gold bangle and two mobile phones.

She received treatment for three deep cuts to her head, a cut to her forehead and severe bruising to her arms, shoulder chest and back.

Fairley admitted robbery at an earlier hearing but was convicted of aggravated burglary by a jury, a charge he had denied.

The judge said that if Fairley was an adult he would be facing a jail term of 15 years.

He said: “Having heard all of the evidence I’m satisfied that it was a premeditated offence, that you left your home early in the morning and you deliberately committed this sort of offence.

Speaking after sentencing, Fairley’s victim said: “I’m happy with the result. I’m still trying to get on with my life but the verdict means he won't be able to do it to someone else for a very long time."
