The former secretary of Rugby RSPCA has urged Rugbeians to boycott a rat trapping device because she feels it’s inhumane.Click to enlargeThe trap, which is on sale in the town centre, works by sticking rodents onto a panel of glue.
Beryl Emery, who was branch secretary of Rugby RSPCA for 26 years, said the devices are inhumane, and in her experience, could lead to people abusing it.
She said: “I first saw the device while I was out shopping and I couldn’t believe what I saw. It’s an extremely inhumane way to control a rat problem.
“Once it’s trapped the creature will probably die a long slow death as it will be dehydrated and in a great amount of pain and distress.”
She added: “My experience tells me that unfortunately some people out there are disturbed enough to use these devices purely for their own twisted amusement. Regrettably I suspect that there could be people in Rugby who are tempted to do that.”
“I’d urge people to consider other, more humane ways of controlling rat problems.”
