Hundreds of mourners bid their final farewell to Coventry’s “inspirational” former Lord Mayor Jack Harrison yesterday.

The city councillor died peacefully at home with his wife and two sons by his bedside.

One of Jack’s most significant achievements included raising more than £100,000 for his mayoral charities during his year of office.

Shortly after he completed his term as mayor he was diagnosed with terminal cancer but refused to give up his public duties.

He continued his work as councillor, school governor and hospital director until just days before he died.

Grieving friends, family, and members of the community packed out Holy Trinity Church to pay their respects to a “remarkable” man.

Former Sky Blues chairman Joe Elliott, Coun Bob Ainsworth and former Lord Mayor Brian Kelsey were just some of those who attended the funeral.
