Coventry city centre was a sea of pink on Sunday as thousands of women took part in the Race For Life.

More than 2,500 women donned pink feather boas, fluorescent wigs and novelty headbands and descended on Millennium Place in Hales Street for the early morning start to this year’s event which raises money for Cancer Research.

The female-only event was held in the city centre for the first time and saw runners, joggers and walkers take part in an energetic Zumba warm-up before taking on the 5k route.

Crossing the finish line first in 21.30 minutes was 38-year-old Lucy Duckers from Gibbet Hill, Coventry.

Lucy has already ran a half marathon and a 10k event this year to raise money in honour of her dad who died from cancer in 2009.

The mum-of-three said: “I am running for the Clive Hale Memorial Fund which will see money go towards the haematology unit at University Hospital, Walsgrave.

“I’m pretty impressed with that time.

"It’s the quickest I have ever done it.”
